    Anjana Dayal de Prewitt is a globally recognized humanitarian leader and peacebuilder with more than two decades of experience advancing gender equity, community engagement, and psychosocial support across more than 30 conflicts and disaster-affected countries. She has held senior leadership roles with the American Red Cross, Save the Children, and across the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, where she led multimillion-dollar initiatives and contributed to organizational change, policy development and field-based practice.

     

    Anjana combines lived experience, field insight, and reflective storytelling to explore resilience, humanitarian identity, healing, and social justice. Her writing has been published in academic journals and books, as well as her blog, Peace Calls. Currently, she serves on the Board of the Euphrates Institute and GLOW Red Secretariat, a global network of women leaders within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

     

    Anjana holds a master’s in Sustainable Peace from the UN-mandated University for Peace (Costa Rica) and a bachelor’s in psychology from Isabella Thoburn College (India). She is a certified Humanitarian Diplomat and Inclusive Leadership Coach. Fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu and Spanish. She continues to write, speak and build bridges across cultures — believing deeply that compassion, courage, and human connection can transform systems and hearts.

    Rethinking the Relationship Between Human Rights Law and IHL with Stephanie Willett and Christian Jorgensen

    IHL Discussion: From Peace to War and Back Again: Human Rights Law Across Conflict 


    Stephanie Willett has years of experience in development and operations with both local and global nonprofit organizations. She has been with the Red Cross since 2014 and currently works as COO in Northern California Coastal Region. She has been a volunteer trainer in International Humanitarian Law since 2018 and also volunteers with the Red Cross’s Sound the Alarm program. Originally from Los Angeles, Stephanie has lived and worked internationally and is fluent in French and Spanish.

    Christian Jorgensen serves as Legal Counsel at the American Red Cross-National Headquarters, where his work focuses on international humanitarian law. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law and a Master of Science in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from DePaul University. His professional experience includes work in the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Germany, and Colombia, supporting humanitarian and legal initiatives in diverse international contexts.

    Armed conflicts are ongoing around the world. At times it may seem that there are no rules in war. However, there are rules in war, and they make a difference. Even War Has Rules is a dynamic discussion on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and how it governs armed conflict. By the end of the class, participants will achieve a general understanding of IHL and will be better able to evaluate the actions of parties to armed conflicts.

    Artificial intelligence, economic factors and political changes have disrupted the job market over the past 18 months. Former Red Crosser Cynthia Gutierrez-White, author of Redefined - Finding Purpose and Power After Job Loss Amid AI Disruption and Market Uncertainty, will talk about the skills and approaches needed to navigate these turbulent careers waters.

    Roger Lowe, ARCAN board member, will moderate and ask her questions, then they will open it up for audience questions.
